Surf W/ Coolest Wrestling Show Ever!

SEXO Y VIOLENCIA WRESTLING, THE UNDERDOG SHOW, HOME MADE FIREWORKS, GONE WITH THE WIND BEHIND THE SCENES!
As the FCC and the entertainment biz get ready to end home recording as we know it, a bunch of radical geeks are working on a solution or two.

Back after World War 1, audiences filled this huge theater for burlesque, movies and other working class delights. Most of these old theaters have been shut down, run down and destroyed.  The 3000 seat Congress Theater in Chicago has managed to keep going, today hosting everything from monthly Luche Libre wrestlers to rock concerts. It is a fun place to see a show.  http://www.congresschicago.com/HomeComing.asp

Sexo Y Violencia! Lucha VaVoom! This just may be the wildest wrestling promotion of all time. They are coming to Chicago on Cinco de Mayo, I am so there. Burlesque queens, comedians, wrestlers! I think we have one brilliant idea here. Not safe for work.

Incarcerated chess champion Bobby Fischer, tantalizingly close to securing freedom after almost eight months in Japanese cells, may yet find himself being deported to his homeland as the United States government is moving to prosecute him for tax evasion, the Mainichi Daily News learned Saturday.

Although Iceland has a special foreigner's passport waiting in its Tokyo Embassy for the 62-year-old grandmaster's release, his supporters have an airplane ticket to Reykjavik for him, and moves are afoot to grant him citizenship of that country, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service is about to begin legal action against Fischer.

The Underdog Show is still funny. The Underdog Show began with a parody of Superman's famous opening: "Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's a frog...a frog?" At that point, the canine would correct the observers with: "Not bird, nor plane, nor even frog, it's just little 'ole me, Underdog !" Like his human counterpart, Underdog was not infallible. While he didn't have to contend with Kryptonite, occasionally his power would fade, causing him all kinds of trouble. For cases like that, the pooch would carry a revitalizing energy pill in a secret compartment in his ring.

The Ranch Girls and the Ragtime Wranglers have been playing rock-a-billy / hillbilly based songs with female harmony vocal duets, songs from their musical heroes of the 40's and 50's as well as new originals, most of them written by 'Ranch Girl' Mary Ann. No nostalgia here, but looking back and recreating the past.

This is the place to go.  Chock full of recipes and ideas for displays using basic consumer fireworks, as well as instructions on how to make your own shells and mortars. I suggest checking out the "Fireworks Projects" to start out.  Includes video clips of these "projects" being lit off.    http://www.pyrouniverse.com/

In the first substantial shift of public opinion in the Muslim world since the beginning of the United States' global war on terrorism, more people in the world's largest Muslim country now favor American efforts against terrorism than oppose them. Suppose terrorists were to release plague in Chicago, and health officials, faced with limited resources and personnel, had to quickly choose the most effective response. Would mass administration of antibiotics be the best way to halt an outbreak? Or mass quarantines? What if a chance to nip a global influenza pandemic in the bud meant sending national stockpiles of antiviral drugs to Asia where a deadly new flu strain was said to be emerging? If the strategy succeeded, a worldwide crisis would be averted; if it failed, the donor countries would be left with less protection.
To identify the best responses under a variety of conditions in advance of disasters, health officials need a laboratory where "what if" scenarios can be tested as realistically as possible.

BREAKING DUMB LAWS, THE BELL WITCH, JAPANESE VIRTUAL GIRLFRIEND, JUMP TO SAVE THE WORLD, UFO'S TO FILL THE SKIES!
You gotta love these folks: As US coast-to-coast crimewaves go, it is not in the league of Bonnie and Clyde. It lacks both violence and avarice and is further hindered by an overabundance of pre-publicity. Undeterred, a couple of students from Cornwall are intent on making American criminal history by spending their summer breaking as many US laws as possible.  Starting in the liberal state of California, they hope to evade the attention of local police officers when they ride a bike in a swimming pool and curse on a crazy-golf course.  In the far more conservative - and landlocked - state of Utah, they will risk the penitentiary when they hire a boat and attempt to go whale-hunting.  I hope they do a blog!

Americans responded to the lure of the paranormal in droves, making “The Sixth Sense” and “The Blair Witch Project” box office hits and proving, once again, that our fascination with things that go bump in the night often makes our wallets go bump in our pockets. And, as logic would have it, interest in true-to-life, documented hauntings has grown considerably over the last few years.  One such haunting that has come to light in recent years is the so-called “Bell Witch,” a sinister entity that tormented a family on Tennessee’s frontier between the years of 1817 and 1821.

GOVERNMENT TO GO AFTER PAY TV, MISS AMERICA GOES REALITY SHOW, COSPLAY'S NEXT STEP, WENDY'S WORLD!
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens said on Tuesday he would push for applying broadcast decency standards to cable television and subscription satellite TV and radio.  Stevens said he disagreed "violently" with assertions by the cable industry that Congress does not have the authority to impose limits on its content.

Despite the scandalous move a few years back allowing Miss America contestants to wear nearly itsy-bitsy bikinis, the pageant's ratings have been colder than the winner's dip during her ritual ocean frolic. Last year, ABC dropped the show completely after abysmally low viewership. But the annual scholarship contest (thinly disguised as a babe parade) may be on the verge of an extreme makeover.

The New York Post reports that the pageant has signed a deal with the William Morris agency and plans to come back to the boob tube as a reality show! For a series of six or seven episodes, film crews will train their ruthless lenses on contestants in regional competitions - think "Miss Congeniality" meets "The Bachelorette" - as they hone their interview skills, tone their glutei, and cry with joy and/or despair on their way to the live finale.

LET’S ROCK AGAIN! is a one-hour music documentary following rock icon Joe Strummer as he tours across America and Japan.
After a montage of Strummer’s glorious past with the seminal rock band the Clash, we are treated to a slice of life eleven years later on the comeback trail.
Strummer’s main objective is simple -- to get his music out to the people and break his record even so that he can have another chance to rock again.
This is achieved through photo shoots, magazine interviews and press appearances. In his humble quest, we even see Joe handing out flyers on the boardwalk and making a blind visit to a radio station in order to get his latest cd on the air and attract fans to his concert.
Live performances feature songs from the Clash as well as material written with his new band, the Mescaleros.

BANNED OSCAR SONG, HUNTER S. THOMPSON'S WAKE, WORST SONGS OF 2004, PREACHING DOG, DON RICKLES IS COOL!
ABC executives have forced Robin Williams to drop a comic song from the Oscars show that might well have proved one of the sharpest, most political and raciest numbers of the broadcast, despite the fact that the network and the show's host, Chris Rock, have been promoting the night as anything but tame.

Williams, the presenter of the Academy Award for best animated feature, decided last week that his one minute on stage would be a prime time to lampoon a conservative critic James Dobson, whose group Focus on the Family last month criticized the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants for appearing in a video about tolerance that the group called ``pro-homosexual.''  http://www.registerguard.com/news/2005/02/27/a20.nat.oscar.0227.html

Lots of photos of all the things this guy has collected over the years. I can't believe how much stuff this guy has. The collection goes on and on and on...  He does display everything very well though. Must be a pain to dust.

Rock & roll has always been populated by fringe figures, cult artists that managed to develop a fanatical following because of their outsized quirks, but few cult rockers have ever been quite as weird, or beloved, as Ian Dury. As the leader of the underappreciated and ill-fated pub-rockers Kilburn & the High Roads, Dury cut a striking figure -- he remained handicapped from a childhood bout with polio, yet stalked the stage with dynamic charisma, spitting out music-hall numbers and rockers in his thick Cockney accent. Dury was 28 at the time he formed Kilburn, and once they disbanded, conventional wisdom would have suggested that he was far too old to become a pop star, but conventional wisdom never played much of a role in Dury's career. Signing with the fledgling indie label Stiff in 1978, Dury developed a strange fusion of music-hall, punk rock and disco that brought him to stardom in his native England. Driven by a warped sense of humor and a pulsating beat, singles like "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick," "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" and "Reasons to Be Cheerful (Part 3)" became Top Ten hits in the U.K., yet Dury's most distinctive qualities -- his dry wit and wordplay, thick Cockney brogue, and fascination with music-hall -- kept him from gaining popularity outside of England.   http://www.iandury.co.uk/

The Swede's may not have much of a military, and they do offer free health care to anyone around the world that can get there (yep- every American has free health care in Sweden), but now they are starting to ask questions that could change the country.

We have lived through a period of left brain thinking called the information age.  The new age is starting.  It's the age of concepts!

In April, 1937, Claire L. Chennault, then a captain in the United States Army Air Corps, retired from active duty and accepted an offer form Madame Chiang Kai-shek for a three month mission to China to make a confidential survey of the Chinese Air Force. At that time China and Japan were on the verge of war and the fledgling Chinese Air Force was beset by internal problems and torn between American and Italian influence. the result was The Flying Tigers!
