THE DAY NOTRE DAME FOUGHT THE KKK!, FBI MAY HAVE FRAMED THOUSANDS, THE DEATH OF MASS CULTURE, 5 MOST OVERLOOKED CITIES IN U.S.!
A six-month investigation by 60 Minutes and The Washington Post shows that there are hundreds of defendants imprisoned around the country who were convicted with the help of a now discredited forensic tool, and that the FBI never notified them, their lawyers, or the courts, that the their cases may have been affected by faulty testimony. The science, called bullet lead analysis, was used by the FBI for 40 years in thousands of cases, and some of the people it helped put in jail may be innocent. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/16/60minutes/main3512453.shtml

SPECIAL DRUGS THEME: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE; DESIGNER DRUGS, WHEN DRUGS WERE LEGAL, HOW THEY BECAME ILLEGAL, BEST STONER FILMS!
Before drugs were made illegal- they were legal. Check this out!
FRANCIS CRICK, the Nobel Prize-winning father of modern genetics, was under the influence of LSD when he first deduced the-helix structure of DNA nearly 50 years ago.
The abrasive and unorthodox Crick and his brilliant American co-researcher James Watson famously celebrated their eureka moment in March 1953 by running from the now legendary Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge to the nearby Eagle pub, where they announced over pints of bitter that they had discovered the secret of life.
Crick, who died ten days ago, aged 88, later told a fellow scientist that he often used small doses of LSD then an experimental drug used in psychotherapy to boost his powers of thought. He said it was LSD, not the Eagle's warm beer, that helped him to unravel the structure of DNA, the discovery that won him the Nobel Prize. http://www.mayanmajix.com/art1699.html
The Lords Of Acid - this would make a great movie - the guys who spread LSD around the nation!
Former Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher Dock Ellis says he was under the influence of LSD when he pitched a 1970 no-hitter against the San Diego Padres.
Ellis, now co-coordinator of an anti drug program in Los Angeles, said he didn't know until six hours before his June 12, 1970 no hitter that he was going to pitch.
"I was in Los Angeles, and the team was playing in San Diego , but I didn't know it. I had taken LSD..... I thought it was an off-day, that's how come I had it in me. I took the LSD at noon. At 1pm, his girlfriend and trip partner looked at the paper and said, "Dock, you're pitching today!"
"That's when it was $9.50 to fly to San Diego. She got me to the airport at 3:30. I got there at 4:30, and the game started at 6:05pm. It was a twi-night doubleheader. http://www.sirbacon.org/4membersonly/docellis.htm
This is a small selection of my psychedelic sketches and diary pages from the early seventies, done under the influence of lsd-25. They don't have any artistic value. TOP 10 MOVIES TO TRIP/ GET HIGH TO:
#10- KISMET -
The beats in the 1950's would get together to watch this amazing film which transforms the Middle East into a science fiction landscape with cool music and outrageous costumes, sets, and a really fun script. Throw in a twin Asian contortionist pair and what more could you ask for? RUNNER-UP: PROJECT A with Jackie Chan.
#9: REQUIEM FOR A DREAM-
Jennifer Connelly was 30 when she played an early 20's doper. But my god what a performance. The unusual editing and storyline make this one a must. RUNNER-UP: Any of the Peter Jackson LORD OF THE RINGS movies.
#8: APOCALYPSE NOW -
With scenes like this, how could this NOT be a stoners movie?
When you first read the title your eyes probably raised to your forehead as you said outloud, WHAT? A WAR FILM?
If the movie was just a war film, do you think people who have seen it would go out of the way to see it over and over? The opening scene is the giveaway, as the music of THE DOORS starts the film (which is about as synonymous with tripping or being high as you can get) and helicopters rise up into the screen. BUT WAIT- at one point one of the characters actually holds up a tab of acid and takes it. According to Dennis Hopper, EVERYONE on the set was tripping through most of the film. (Except, oddly, Brando). When Harvey Keitell showed up to star in the movie he found most of the cast tripping and quit the movie. I was once at a trip party for 20 people when the film was about to start. Most of the women said they'd leave to walk around. After the first ten minutes no one moved. Not even to get a beer! RUNNER-UP: GODZILLA AND MOTHRA: THE BATTLE FOR EARTH or GODZILLA FINAL WARS.
#7: STAR WARS -
you probably know this one already. By the way, it may be science fiction, but it too is a war film, isn't it? RUNNER-UP: THE EMERALD JUNGLE.
#6: SATYRICON -
In the 1970's hippies lined up around the block to go to midnight shows of this epic trip/ stoner movie. One reviewer said, A FABULOUS TRIP INTO A TOTALLY DECADENT CIVILIZATION. That tipped hipsters off that it was best seen tripping. Fellini had made many great films, but SATYRICON became a rite of passage for trippers. Once hipsters saw it, the idea that you could get high to a movie seemed natural. You will want to see it straight as well. RUNNER-UP: Jerry Lewis in THE NUTTY PROFESSOR. Watch Jerry turn into his ex-partner, DEAN MARTIN!
#5: WILLY WONKA -
As much as I like Johnny Depp's version, the Gene Wilder version is the most pleasing to the eye. RUNNER-UP: FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. Critics trashed this film when it came out. Apparently they were straight when they saw it. A couple of drinks actually enhances the film. RUNNER-UP: THE WIZARD OF OZ.
#4: BLADE RUNNER-
Any version. You probably already know this. RUNNER-UP: PULP FICTION, if you can handle the violence, this is really a very religious story about redemption.
#3: TARZAN AND HIS MATE -
The best Tarzan ever made. After a slow first ten minutes to introduce the characters, the film takes off and never stops. There is actually more action, thrills and excitement in this film than RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC which would have come in at 11 if this list went that far. Jane does a nude swimming scene (full frontal- before the censorship code started in 1934- partly because of this movie). The fact that Jane is the key figure in this film, is sexy and heroic makes it a date favorite. You won't believe what American films could get away with before censorship started. And you will never forget TARZAN AND HIS MATE. Runner-up: any version of KING KONG.
#2 : FORBIDDEN PLANET-
Before there was STAR TREK, which many feel was a rip-off of this film, FORBIDDEN PLANET took us where no man had gone before. The music alone, played on Theremins non-stop, would be more than enough to recommend this movie. But then you have the costumes, the sets, and one of the most imaginative stories American film has ever told. Straight or stoned, this one is a must. RUNNER-UP: THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.
#1: PERFORMANCE -
Critics went into shock when this film came out. They screamed it glorified mushrooms, was nothing more than a re-creation of a trip, was made to pander to hippies. Well, yes it was. It is also one of the greatest "lost" films ever made. It has never been released to TV (not even cable!) and most don't know that Mick Jagger did a performance that should have been nominated for an Oscar. Orgy scenes, decadence, drugs- but beneath it all it is the story of transformation and identity. IF you can find this film, you'll see why in the 1970's audiences lined up week after week at midnight shows tripping their butts off- and each time got something different out of the film. Runner-up- The first MATRIX movie. But only the first. RUNNER-UP: ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST. Incredible camera work and editing make this western a must. SEE IT IN WIDE SCREEN VERSION ONLY!

Years before The Beatles, Beach Boys, The Who or the Rolling Stones did their theme albums- Sinatra created a series of theme albums which remain classics. Every single song during this period will touch you. Sinatra's middle period--his Capitol years--was his greatest. Sinatra began recording for Capitol in 1953, and he was a pioneer of the long-playing theme album. His theme albums tended to fall into two major mood groups--exhilaration and despair. This may help explain why Sinatra has outlived death.

During the war, Fort Hunt was a secret interrogation center, where some 4,000 German and Italian military officers, high-ranking government officials and scientists were debriefed. A few years ago, Park Rangers responsible for the area learned of Fort Hunt's critical intelligence role in recently declassified documents, and they decided to create a memorial and reunite the unit's veterans. One of the most fascinating notions raised by the current presidential campaign is the idea that the United States can and must finally overcome the divisions of the 1960s. It's most often associated with the ascendancy of Sen. Barack Obama, who has been known to entertain it himself. Its most gauzy champion is pundit Andrew Sullivan, who argued in a cover article in the December Atlantic Monthly that, "If you are an American who yearns to finally get beyond the symbolic battles of the Boomer generation and face today's actual problems, Obama may be your man."

Any discussion of marijuana should begin with the fact that there have been numerous official reports and studies, every one of which has concluded that marijuana poses no great risk to society and should not be criminalized. These include:
- the National Academy of Sciences Analysis of Marijuana Policy (1982);
- the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse (the Shafer Report) (1973);
- the Canadian Government's Commission of Inquiry (Le Dain Report) (1970);
- the British Advisory Committee on Drug Dependency (Wooton Report) (1968);
- the La Guardia Report (1944);
- the Panama Canal Zone Military Investigations (1916-29);
- and Britain's monumental Indian Hemp Drugs Commission (1893-4).
It is sometimes claimed that there is ``new evidence'' showing marijuana is more harmful than was thought in the sixties. In fact, the most recent studies have tended to confirm marijuana's safety, refuting claims that it causes birth defects, brain damag e, reduced testosterone, or increased drug abuse problems. http://paranoia.lycaeum.org/marijuana/facts/mj-health-mythology.html

Titles include: Aphasia (1961), cut and assembled commercial and soft news language into a found poetry that is still original and fresh; Scandinavian Summer (1961), where Porter cut out pages from Scandinavian, Russian, and American newspaper archives at random, bound them together, and called the result a book; 468B Thy Future (1966), a book written entirely in computer code; The Wastemaker (1926-1961) where texts are divorced from their sources and disguised in a new tone, not intended by the original author; and Dieresis (1969) where the photographs in the book are the modern equivalents of ancient ideograms, capable of being read as texts.

Star forts are incredible, relatively unappreciated structures that have recently become a fascination of mine - humungous constructions that only really become visually stunning when you look down on them from above. this type of fortification design was adopted in the early 16th century as people realised that simpler, often circular forts were pretty crap when it came to the job in hand: defense.
