SurfW/BANNED I AM LEGEND END!

COSPLAY HITS THE WEST, SCRIPTURE CANDY, SEE NOAH'S ARC, VICTORIAN FREAK SHOWS, HILARIOUS SCIENCE FAIR EXHIBITS!

I was deeply offended by the ending to I AM LEGEND that glorified suicide bombers. Knowing this film would play the Middle East, I consider it reckless in the extreme to portray suicide bombers as heroes. Guess what? There was an alternative ending. Not only was the unused ending better than the John Wayne style heroics at the end of the film, but it's closer to the feeling of the book. What's next Hollywood? Making heroes of plane hijackers? Watch the alternative ending here- BEFORE IT GETS TAKEN DOWN!
Sadly, that no one involved in the process of making this film had a problem with portraying a suicide bomber as a hero shows how out of touch we all are with terrorism.

Japanese garage-punk girl-group Supersnazz formed their band in 1990 and first brought their raucous sound to the U.S. in 1992. Their music on this 7-inch record is just a bit more 'polished' than some of their earlier releases.

Dr Johnson found him too lofty, TS Eliot said he wasn't serious enough, and today he is more admired than loved. But, 400 years after his birth, John Milton remains our most thrilling poet, argues Claire Tomalin, who has been in thrall to his verse since she was a teenager

ON TIME.
     FLY, envious Time, till thou run out thy race;
Call on the lazy leaden-stepping hours,
Whose speed is but the heavy plummet's pace;
And glut thyself with what thy womb devours,
Which is no more then what is false and vain,
And merely mortal dross;
So little is our loss,
So little is thy gain.
For when, as each thing bad thou hast entomb'd
And last of all thy greedy self consumed,
Then long Eternity shall greet our bliss,
With an individual kiss;
And Joy shall overtake us, as a flood,
When every thing that is sincerely good,
And perfectly divine,
With truth, and peace, and love, shall ever shine,
About the supreme throne
Of Him, to whose happy-making sight, alone,
When once our heavenly-guided soul shall climb,
Then all this earthly grossness quit,
Attired with stars, we shall for ever sit,
     Triumphing over Death, and Chance, and thee, O Time!

SurfW/ THE DAVE CLARK 5!

Just days before they were to be inducted into the rock and roll Hall Of Fame, lead singer Mike Smith passed away. The only band to give the Beatles a run for their money, the first UK band to have a song banned from public play (BITS AND PIECES), the 5 put out a series of 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minute songs (long before the Ramones) with high energy and great hooks. If you don't have a Dave Clark 5 cd in your collection, what's your problem?

SPECIAL THEME SURF: THE DAVE CLARK 5!

The Dave Clark Five was a phenomenally successful beat group in the Sixties, but many may have wondered why it wasn't called the Mike Smith Five. Smith was the group's lead singer, keyboard player and chief songwriter, but it was the drummer Clark's group: he chose the personnel and made the business decisions.

"We were the first group where the drummer was the front man," Clark said. "It was always the singer that was the front man but Mike stood there and played piano and keyboards. He had a great voice and he was the Sixties' Rod Stewart, and he contributed a tremendous amount to the Dave Clark Five." "I didn't care about the name," Smith once told me. "I was doing something that I enjoyed doing and it was something that was dead easy. My ego's never been that big, and maybe I lost out because of it. I've got no regrets and no recriminations: I had a great time."

Surf W/ Prozac Hoax!

NINE INCH NAILS NEW CD FREE ONLINE, ALLEN GINSBERG'S HOWL AUDIOTAPE DISCOVERED, THE GAZA BOMBSHELL, GLOBAL WARMING GURU SHOCKER, BENNY HINN!

Prozac, the bestselling antidepressant taken by 40 million people worldwide, does not work and nor do similar drugs in the same class, according to a major review released today! http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/feb/26/mentalhealth.medicalresearch?gusrc=rss&feed=networkfront

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn," wrote Allen Ginsberg more then 50 years ago in what was to become the epic poem of the Beat generation. Now what is believed to be the first ever recording of the late poet reading Howl has been discovered in Oregon.

It had always been thought that Ginsberg first recorded Howl in Berkeley, California, in March 1956. But, according to the Oregonian newspaper, the historic first recording took place a month earlier in student lodgings at a private college in Portland. Ginsberg had just hitchhiked to the city with fellow Beat poet Gary Snyder in the winter of 1956. Snyder, who had grown up in Portland and graduated from Reed College, brought his friend to the campus for a couple of readings.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/14/usa  Here are the recordings: http://www.reed.edu/news_center/multimedia/index.html

Nine Inch Nails has self-released a new instrumental album, Ghosts I-IV. Consisting of 36 instrumental tracks described as "music for daydreams" and released under Creative Commons, it is available in a wide range of formats: MP3, double CD, a package with: the 2xCD, multitracks on DVD, and a deluxe book, and finally the super-deluxe limited edition which includes all that as well as a copy of the album on vinyl.

The free MP3 download includes the first volume - nine tracks (each with unique artwork), wallpapers, and a PDF of the 40 page book. Available directly off nin.com, you also have the option to torrent it via official NIN profiles on Waffles, what.cd and The Pirate Bay. Absent from this release was any kind of leak of audio or information. Record labels and artists should take notes: This is how you do music distribution.
Condoleezza Rice and George W. Bush

After failing to anticipate Hamas's victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current U.S. officials, David Rose reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever. http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/04/gaza200804

In an interview by Decca Aitkenhead of The Guardian, Lovelock explains why global warming had passes a tipping point, catastrophe is inevitable, and we are all doomed:

"It's just too late for it," he says. "Perhaps if we'd gone along routes like that in 1967, it might have helped. But we don't have time. All these standard green things, like sustainable development, I think these are just words that mean nothing. I get an awful lot of people coming to me saying you can't say that, because it gives us nothing to do. I say on the contrary, it gives us an immense amount to do. Just not the kinds of things you want to do."

He dismisses eco ideas briskly, one by one. "Carbon offsetting? I wouldn't dream of it. It's just a joke. To pay money to plant trees, to think you're offsetting the carbon? You're probably making matters worse. You're far better off giving to the charity Cool Earth, which gives the money to the native peoples to not take down their forests." […]

He saves his thunder for what he considers the emptiest false promise of all - renewable energy.

"You're never going to get enough energy from wind to run a society such as ours," he says. "Windmills! Oh no. No way of doing it. You can cover the whole country with the blasted things, millions of them. Waste of time."

Thomas J. Stowers gravestone located in the Odd Fellow Cemetery near Baxter, Tennessee, bears engraved information that would indicate history is mistaken about there being no survivors of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. From Richard Crowe.

In Europe former Kings and leaders are easily called insane, corrupt- perhaps because the United States is so young by comparison we don't like to do this. Nixon is praised for "opening up China", Hoover is cleared of starting the depression (he was cleared by Truman of all people), LBJ is cleared for Viet Nam with praise for his use of government to end poverty. Even though that plan didn't work. Even Hillary Clinton says George Bush should be praised for his carrying the nation through 911. Bill Clinton says Ronald Reagan is his hero and wrote a long article in VANITY FAIR praising him. Americans do not feel comfortable saying it ever had a bad leader. It is almost as if by saying it, the nation could collapse. This is as childish as wanting the world to love us. The following presents new views on Lincoln, and the last link is an eye opener- the libertarian view of the South's cause!

In spring 2000, Intuit took possession of the contents of artist Henry Darger's living and working space, which was located at 851 Webster Street in Chicago. Intuit's Henry Darger Room Collection includes tracings, clippings from newspapers, magazines, comic books, cartoons, children's books, coloring books, personal documents, and architectural elements, fixtures, and furnishings from Darger's original room.

Darger lived in a one-room apartment in Chicago's Lincoln Park until 1973 when he retired to a nursing facility. In his small room—which doubled as his studio and home for close to 40 years—he worked on a large number of painted and collaged drawings that illustrated the story of the Vivian Girls, created volumes of writings, and collected hundreds of objects (shoes, eyeglasses, balls of string, etc.). The contrast between the intimate scale of the room and the staggering volume of drawings, illustrations, writings, and collections, conveys vital information about Darger's existence and the work he created.

The goal of the exhibit is to create an environment that provides a window onto Darger's world.

The robbers chose the wrong night to burst into the club where the Southern Cross Cruiser Club have their monthly meeting. About 50 burly bikers fought back with tables and chairs -- pretty much anything that wasn't bolted down. One would-be robber was tied up; the other in the hospital.

Police arrested both.

I have to admit, my understanding and respect of Paris Hilton actually increased after watching PARIS HILTON, INC. Ever wonder how she makes money (and she makes an incredible amount world wide that Americans don't know about), well, you may think differently about Paris after watching this too. By the way, on her own right now, she is worth 250 million dollars. Most of that is from abroad. Damn.

This documentary on Marc Bolan, originally shown on BBC 4, has been timed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the teen idols tragic death in a car crash. Narrated by fellow glam-rock star Suzi Quatro, it examines Bolans childhood ambitions of fame and where it led him, using previously lost TV and radio interviews, rediscovered Top of the Pops recordings, unseen concert footage and unique home movies.
I am very glad I got to see T.Rex on the U.S. tour

A dramatised documentary following the experiences of Henry Metelmann, a German soldier caught up in the most destructive conflict in history - Hitlers invasion of Russia. The film travels the route that Metelmann and his fellow soldiers took and sees how the choices he made meant he emerged from the war a brutalised man. The film is Metalmanns confession delivered in mostly dramatised scenes from his life at war, intercut with archive clips and contemporary reflections.  http://openflv.com/watch?v=NjI2ODY4MQ==&p=0

He was both a visionary and a manipulator, a brilliant orator and a pompous autocrat. In just ten years following his emigration to the United States as a laborer in 1917, Marcus Garvey rose to lead the largest black organization in history, was taken to prison in handcuffs. Marcus Garvey is the dramatic story of the rise and fall of an African American leader who influenced politics and culture around the world.

Writer and filmmaker Alain Robbe-Grillet, an "enfant terrible" of France's literary establishment who helped found the New Novel school in the 1950s, died on Monday aged 85, his publishers said.

Robbe-Grillet became a cult figure among France's postwar intelligentsia with a genre of novel-writing that rejected conventions such as plot, characterization and emotion.

It effectively launched a type of semi-philosophical fiction in which nothing much happens but a vast amount is noticed, imagined or thought. http://www.reuters.com/article/filmNews/idUSL184620420080219?sp=true

Chicago ghost hunter Richard Crowe sends us this amazing site of Chinese communist statues and what they mean

FeatherDeathCrowns02.JPG (25898 bytes)

From:  Gloria Morgan, Duck River, Tennessee ~ These are from my mothers 2 sisters that died at the ages of 7 and 10. These are over 100 years old.  My grandmother used to tell me that the presence of these in a feather pillow meant that they went to Heaven. The small one is age 7 and the slightly larger one was 10. They have never came loose and still feel firm after a century.
Feather death crowns were made from the pillow feathers people died on. This comes to us from Richard Crowe as well.  http://www.carrollscorner.net/FeatherDeathCrowns.htm

Richard Crowe sends us the FBI online history of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre- pointing out that the FBI gets Bugs Moran's name wrong!

Richard Crowe sends us these fascinating facts on silver dollars. Why ex-slaves liked them, and how Harry Houdini gave away thousands of dollars worth of them in his act!  http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=3849

Richard Crowe does ghost tours around Chicago (though truth be told it is as much a hidden tour of Chicago's history as it is a supernatural tour) and you will have fun at his events.

This should keep you warm. America's hottest cheerleaders. The Bears haven't won a Superbowl since we got rid of ours. Hmmmmmmmmm

If I have to get old, I want to do it in Paris.

It's not because of the dank weather, the constant personal snubs or a fetish for unpasteurized cheese. It's because, quite frankly, I'd like to keep having sex.

In the United States, my odds would be grim. Through our 40s, we American women manage to arrange romps on a fairly regular basis. But the latest national statistics show that by our 50s, a third of us haven't had sex in the last year. By our 60s, nearly half have gone sexless in the previous year. Once we hit our 70s, most of us might as well hang up an "out of business" sign.

So much for the gym-bodied baby boomers who promised to make 60 the new 40, using Botox as an aphrodisiac. Among today's 50-plus women, the problem of sexlessness is as bad or worse than it was for older women two decades ago.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/08/AR2008020801607.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

It is the favorite scare story of the press today- millions of sex predators roam the internet seeking out children. There is only one problem. It isn't true.
