The Buddhist Mummies Of Japan!
Strange though it may sound, one of the best known supernatural monsters in Japan are kitsune -- foxes. There are many legends from all over the country that tell of their secret lives and magical talents. Tales tell of their ability to cast illusions and change form, and of their mischevious -- and sometimes dangerous -- need to interfere with humans. Foxes are so well known in Japan that they often appear in children's books, TV shows, comics, and movies as stock characters.
This island, also known as Juan Fernández Island, is located in the archipelago of Juan Fernández, 414 miles off the coast of South America. It owes its name to the story of the shipwreck of Alexander Selkirk, immortalized in the famous novel "Robinson Crusoe', by Daniel Defoe.
True to its description in the story, the island is a fascinating lost paradise, with an endemic flora and fauna that is unknown in other latitudes. Seventy percent of the plant species in the island are endemic, and you may see the Juan Fernández fur seal or the Juan Fernandez firecrown, both unique to this area.
The archipelago is currently a World Biosphere Reserve.
After Pearl Harbor FDR needed a bullet proof car, but restictions on what could be spent on a car kept him from getting one. Then someone remembered Al Capone's car!

If your cat has a urinary tract infection, try this simple home remedy. Crush up half of a 500mg Vitamin C tablet (non-flavored) and mix with soft canned food every day for two weeks. Within a few days, your cat will be feeling his old self and it will have only cost you about $3 to fix, versus the higher vet bill. This was recommended to me by a vet. http://www.daytipper.com/Tip/36192/How_to_treat_cat_with_urinary_tract_infection.aspx

Bob Dylan's birthday was on May 24. I've had a few people ask me, "What's up with all the Bob Dylan?" Well, he is Bob Dylan, our greatest living songwriter. Even well into his sixties he continues to write songs as good or better than anyone else. In fact, he may he just be hitting his stride. The last three records contain some of his best songs. Anyway, trying to explain to someone "What's so good about Bob Dylan?" is like trying to explain "What's so good about the pyramids?" My friend Mike says we don't even know how good he is. What he means is - that after we're all dead and gone, people are still gonna be listening to Bob Dylan and talking about his songs - just like someone's gonna be reciting Hamlet's soliloquy somewhere in some production in some park 500 years after the fact. We are not going to listen to Bob Dylan's songs today, rather we're gonna listen to the songs he liked enough to record or make a pass at, at some studio session, hotel room, or in a basement with other like minded souls. In an early interview Dylan referred to himself as "a song and dance man." The best interpretors are often the best songwriters, and the best artists are often the craftiest thieves.

Is Osama bin Laden a rebel against the Saudi Arabian ruling class or a model member of it? That question lurks behind "The Bin Ladens," by the Pulitzer Prize-winning New Yorker writer Steve Coll. The world's most famous terrorist owes his fortune and his standing to a family business that Coll calls "the kingdom's Halliburton." THE PRESIDENT CAN HOLD YOU WITHOUT CHARGES, POL POT'S SECRET JAIL, WILL EISNER'S TREAT YOUR M-16 RIFLE LIKE A LADY COMIC, INDIA'S BANDIT QUEEN!
Angelina Jolie is believed to be upset after her troubled past came under tabloid scrutiny this week.
The actress's trip to the Cannes Film Festival to promote her role in kids' film Kung Fu Panda was overshadowed after a shocking video of Jolie was leaked to The Sun newspaper. The footage, filmed in a New York drug den, shows a young Angelina discussing her experiences with drugs and admitting that she killed her childhood pets. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/a96680/jolie-upset-over-leaked-video-footage.html?rss
SEE THE VIDEO:
The Tomb Raider beauty is seen wide-eyed and babbling in the seedy amateur footage – as a woman next to her casually smokes heroin.
She said: "I've done coke, heroin, ecstasy, LSD, everything. I gave them up long ago."
Angelina does not take any drugs herself in the video.
In the video, shot in 1999 when she was 23, the actress brags about loving sado-masochistic SEX – and KILLING her pets.
She says of taking part in sex games where someone is tied down or hurt: "It's just a cool thing."
I don't think it's a big deal that she did drugs and I'm not surprised that she was into sado-masochistic sex, but what's up with killing her pets? SEE THE VIDEO HERE!

India's bandit Queen, sent in by Surfer Richard Crowe
Here is more on her:
Three masked men gunned down India's onetime Bandit Queen on Wednesday, killing the outlaw-turned-legislator whom the poor idolized as a champion of the lower castes. "From bullet to ballot to bullet" one television news channel proclaimed in summing up Phoolan Devi's life.
Devi, 38, was slain outside her home when she returned home for lunch from a session of the lower house of Parliament, Home Minister L. K. Advani told legislators. Her security guard was wounded. According to legend, Devi - the daughter of a low-caste family in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh - was sold into marriage at age 11, fled her brutal husband and fell in love with a highway robber.
Her lover was killed by upper-caste men from the village of Behmai who took her prisoner and raped her repeatedly. She escaped, formed her own gang and in 1981 returned to the village for revenge. On her orders, gang members mowed down 22 upper-caste men with machine-gun fire. Devi portrayed the 10-year rebellion that followed as a caste struggle in one of India's most backward regions, where upper-caste Hindus routinely preyed on members of the lower castes. India has long had a caste structure in which birth dictates stature.

Tracing the history of female crime and execution from 1726 to 1955, Women and the Noose presents the cases of more than 50 women who met their end on the hangman's gallows. From the criminal act to the execution day itself, these women's stories illustrate the range of crimes punishable by execution, such as petty theft and murder, as well as reactions to the death sentence, including the "pleading the belly" defense. Richard Clark also discusses the developments in execution methods, from burning at the stake to the short- and long-drop, as well as the move from very public hangings to more dignified private events. Clark's frank treatment of the executions combined with sympathetic revelations about the women's private lives makes for a chilling and surprisingly moving read. UFOs don't come from outer space. They come from "inner space" - another world inside our earth. That, at least, was the pioneering theory of Captain John Cleves Symmes, of Hamilton. The earth, he believed, was not a solid globe; it's made up of concentric spheres and polar voids. In other words, hollow - with large holes at the North and South Poles that would allow access to the inner earth. He also believed people were living there. Captain Symmes wasn't just somebody's eccentric uncle who went around babbling about strange beliefs. He was a highly respected military officer who had been decorated for bravery during the War of 1812. In his time, he was a respected philosopher. So when he said the earth was hollow, many people listened to him. From Surfer Richard Crowe http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM3AHJ

The monkey grabs some olives off the bar and eats them, then grabs some sliced limes and eats them, then jumps onto the pool table, grabs one of the billiard balls, sticks it in his mouth, and to everyone's amazement, somehow swallows it whole.
The bartender screams at the guy, "Did you see what your monkey just did?"
The guy says "No, what?"
He just ate the cue ball off my pool table-whole!"
"Yeah, that doesn't surprise me," replied the guy, "he eats everything in sight, the little bastard. Sorry. I'll pay for the cue ball and stuff." He finishes his drink, pays his bill, pays for the stuff the monkey ate, then leaves.
Two weeks later he's in the bar again, and has his monkey with him. He orders a drink and the monkey starts running around the bar again. While the man is finishing his drink, the monkey finds a maraschino cherry on the bar. He grabs it, sticks it up his butt, pulls it out, and eats it. Then the monkey finds a peanut, and again sticks it up his butt, pulls it out, and eats it.
The bartender is disgusted.
"Did you see what your monkey did now?" he asks.
"No, what?"replies the guy.
"Well, he stuck a maraschino cherry and a peanut up his butt, pulled it out, and ate it!" said the bartender.
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me," replied the guy. "He still eats everything in sight, but ever since he had to poop out that cue ball, he measures everything first."

They met the crowned heads of Europe, were gentlemen farmers in America and even owned African slaves, they chopped down trees wielding two axes at once, they amused Mark Twain and worried Herman Melville, they were very nearly recruited into the Confederate Army, they worked for PT Barnum but stood up for their rights, and together they somehow fostered 21 children.

Discover why Confederates migrated to Brazil after the Civil War and meet their descendants six generations later. The members of this tight-knit group have became Brazilians, but without losing some of that Dixie character. http://mason.gmu.edu/~jhoskins/splashpage.html
"It's a funny thing hitting sixty after a career as a corporate lawyer and university professor as I'm now early retired and living in Thailand with my Thai wife, Cat, who's quite a fair bit younger than me. I boast a bestselling novel called "Thai Girl" in the bookstores, a house out in the rice fields of Surin, Thailand, a thirty year old jeep in the garage and an antique buffalo cart in the living room. For me this life's always been a heady roller coaster and I want to share something of it with you." From Surfer Richard Crowe
