It is the rumor that has swept Russia- Putin has secretly divorced his wife and is about to marry this gymnist:

A Russian tabloid broke taboo by reporting Russia's president Vladimir Putin had divorced his wife Lyudimilla and plans to wed 24-year-old former Olympic gymnast Alina Kabayeva. The Kremlin Tuesday refused to comment on the article which was posted on the daily's Moskovsky Korrespondent website on Friday.

The article cited a source close to event planning firm Art-management in Putin's native St. Petersburg, saying the company was competing for the right to host the wedding.

1977. On the one hand, disco was raging on the dancefloor. On the other, dinosaur acts such as Pink Floyd were hogging the stadiums and arenas. But for the younger and up-and-coming bands in New York, they had supportive clubs such as CBGB. Above all, they wanted to create music that meant something to themselves and their peers. And they really needed to reclaim rock music for themselves. And they had that do-it-yourself punk ethic.

Playing on January 26, 1977, Talking Heads were still about nine months shy from the release of their debut album, 77, but the group already had their intellectually stimulating and frenzied, staccato sound patented down. Even the dance-y rhythms were already in place - listen to the rolling basslines in The Book I Read. And how can anyone not be moved by the percussive Psycho Killer?

This, as the Russian public has been learning, is Felix Dadaev, a dancer and juggler who, amid the desperate defence against Hitler's invading armies, was ordered to the Kremlin to work as Stalin's body double.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve added a concert on Saturday, May 17 with the Lovell Sisters!

The Lovell Sisters won NPR’s "Prairie Home Companion" National Teen Talent Competition in 2005 and having been wowing audiences across the world ever since.

Here’s our favorite press quote on them:

"The Lovell Sisters play like pros, sing like angels, look like models, and are one good video away from stardom. Their energy is awesome and nobody in the bluegrass world wants to follow them on stage.”
~ Jeff Styles, Talk Radio, Chattanooga, TN

Go take a look at their website: http://lovellsisters.com

We also have a great opening act for this concert. An Irish band named Cù Roì. They are all graduates of the Academy of Irish Music here in Chicago, and they play traditional Irish tunes that will rock your world.

So, mark your calendars right now for this BONUS spring concert. And, please help us spread the word!

As always, the show will kick-off at 8:00 pm at the American Legion Music Hall at 1030 Central Street in Evanston (directions).

When it comes to the ranks of the world's billionaires, the fairer sex is still very much the rarer sex. In 2008, Forbes counted 99 female billionaires, 16 more than last year, but still representing slightly less than 9% of the world's 1,125 billionaires. Between 1900 and 1930, thousands upon thousands of European immigrants, African-Americans, and rural Midwestern youths relocated to Chicago in search of steady work and broader social opportunities. Intrigued by their new urban surroundings, they embraced new forms of commercial culture that made social interaction in the multi-ethnic, multi-racial city easier and more enjoyable. Many of the city's department stores, movie theaters, and amusement parks thrived by offering settings in which Chicagoans of all backgrounds could partake in city life as equals. By popularizing not just jazz music, but countless other amusements as well, Jazz Age Chicagoans laid the groundwork for the spread of mass culture across the nation during the twentieth century.

Wikinews has obtained Operating Thetan (OT) documents of the Church of Scientology which were leaked via Wikileaks. Although some portions of the manual have been leaked previously, this is believed to be the first time the full unedited version has become publicly available.

The 612-page manual for Scientologists written by L. Ron Hubbard contains instructions for the eight different Operating Thetan levels including 'clear' and OT8.

Most of the manual is typed from a computer, while the packet contains some hand written notes by Hubbard himself who also signed them. The manual also contains letters by Hubbard to individuals who have passed the according levels.

"A great many phenomena (strange things) can happen while doing these drills, if they are done honestly," Hubbard writes in regards to 'OT1.'

The following article sent in by Surfer The Drewster shows how good news can be reported as bad:

Science fiction fans are socially dysfunctional, bookish nerds with a tendency to dress up in Star Trek uniforms and exchange greetings in Klingon. They are invariably male and have little sense of personal hygiene. Or so the popular stereotype would have us believe. Like most cultural generalisations, this is about as accurate as the claims that all women are less intelligent than men, people remain unemployed because they are lazy, and all Liverpudlians are light-fingered. Nevertheless, stereotypes abide, sometimes through prejudice, but mostly through ignorance and a negative, simplistic perception of the genre itself.

Ben Ishmael were a collective of thousands of runaway slaves, Native Americans and "poor whites" who created a nomadic colony in the Kentucky Hills in 1790. They lived far from settled communities (for obvious reasons) and were forced out of inhabited lands at a regular pace. When Kentucky farmlands became slave-farms, they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. From Cincinnati they were driven out, tracing a settlement pattern through Indiana and finally to various small towns in Illinois (mostly southern parts). Cities like Mahomet, Mecca, Morocco and Cairo bear the names of some of these settlements. Surfer Richard Crowe may have topped himself on this one! Some people collect postal stamps; Exit Mundi collects scenarios of what could go wrong with the world. Sure, our planet could get hit by an asteroid. But hey, that's nothing. Did you know we could all be munched away by hungry molecules? Or that our physicists could unintentionally wipe us all out while tinkering with particles? `Oops, sorry...'

Exit Mundi isn't in it for doom preaching, but strictly for fun. It's a fascinating thought: if that &*%#-comet didn't wipe out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, we wouldn't be here pondering about apocalypses and armageddons in the first place. The dinosaurs roamed our planet millions of years longer than we did. If it wasn't for the comet, they still would.

That's why this site is a tribute to floods, quantum explosions and awfully big chunks of space rock falling out of the sky. If there's a lesson to be learnt, it should be that within every end looms the dawn of a new beginning.
Sounds good, doesn't it?

At the end of their rope, The Ramones recorded one album of covers, Acid Eaters, in 1993. Here is a rare recording from the same period of Joey Ramone, solo, with only Marky from the Ramones sitting in on drums and other friends doing mostly covers for an abortion rights benefit. Cover versions, the Ramones?

Joey Ramone for Doc Marten's, the controversy about this ad is in the post below this one

This audience[?] recording is magnificent, real close to the stage so no echoes. Who knows, maybe this was recorded on stage? What stands out is how this does not sound like a Ramones concert but is Joey showing variety, enjoying himself plus delivering a punch for abortion rights. Example, he gets to sing Fascists Don't F**k, They Just Screw, written, he says for this show but never recorded by The Ramones. This is the only performance of this song.

Interesting that Joey called this one-night-stand band, The Resistance. HEAR THE CONCERT HERE:

Space-time travel ... original Fritz Leiber paperback jackets

The colourful alcohol-soaked career of Fritz Leiber began in theatre. His father, Fritz Leiber Sr, was a veteran actor (notable for having his portrait painted every time he took on a new role), and the sometime owner of the Shakespearean theatre company that gave Lieber Jr his first job. It was there, presumably, that the soon-to-be-influential sci-fi writer came up with some interesting ideas about the staging of his novels and, less happily, developed a passion for scattering his dialogue with words like "methinks" and "certes".

The 1958 Hugo award winner The Big Time references the big man from Stratford more than any sci-fi book I've read.

The plot cooked up by Ian Fleming in September 1940, more than a decade before he created James Bond, was so brilliantly preposterous that it can now be seen as the prototype 007 mission.

Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, was cool in real life, too!

Fleming, in his role as a naval intelligence officer during the Second World War, was the architect of Operation Ruthless, a daring scheme to seize a German codebook that may have inspired the plot to From Russia with Love. His plan, involving a staged plane crash and disguised commandos, is revealed in full at a new exhibition at the Imperial War Museum.

Boston Beer Co., the Boston brewer of Samuel Adams craft beers, said it is recalling an undetermined amount of beer because of defective bottles that may contain glass particles.

The company said the defective bottles came from a glass company that provides Boston Beer with about a quarter of its glass bottles. The "small grains or bits of glass" were discovered during a quality control operation at the firm's Cincinnati brewery, Boston Beer said in a statement. The problem was confirmed Friday, and was traced to bottles coming from a single manufacturing plant.

Patti Smith — visionary poet punk singer songwriter activist artist — has created a rich multi-layered installation at Fondation Cartier in Paris that reflects 40 years of her more personal visual art-making and creative expression. Drawn from pieces created between 1967 and 2007, the exhibition includes sketches, collages, films, audio installations, cherished objects, handwritten and typed poetry, drafts of song lyrics, and — at the center of it all — a lot of black-and-white Polaroid photographs

John Fogerty

After Creedence broke up, the musician spent years searching for his own sound. With love, he found it.

My new album, "Revival,"comes by its title naturally—a return to making the kind of music I became known for early in my career. I get a real feeling of being back where I belong. But I didn't just decide to do that. I was in need of another kind of revival before that music could be created.

Twenty-one years ago I was a castaway—a drifter, floating along with the stream. Not plotting a course or even aiming for a destination point. I was filled with anger and hurt and at the same time, weirdly subdued; depressed. Just a year earlier I'd released a No. 1 solo album to wildly enthusiastic acclaim. How did things get so bad?

SurfW/ Schlitz Beer Is Back!

NEW INTERNET IS COMING, WHEN SCOTLAND WAS JEWISH, EVA BRAUN'S LINGERIE, TOUCH OF EVIL TRAILER, RIC FLAIR'S GOODBYE SPEECH!

Schlitz beer, once the world's top-selling beer brand, has gone back to its original formula. Woodridge-based Pabst Brewing Co. relaunches the formula -- packaged in the long-neck bottles it abandoned in the 1990s -- this week in Chicago.

I'll be taking time off to pack and move so expect only a few entrys here at the Surf until after the start of May! Mike

There is a company on the net that does DNA testing, Richard Crowe found a page on the site about when Scotland was Jewish, using DNA evidence!

Could be you are one of the 100,000 (they are admitting to) that are being subject to deep packet inspection. "You don't want the phone company tapping your phone calls, and in the same way you don't want your ISP tapping your Web traffic," said Ari Schwartz of the Center for Democracy and Technology, an advocacy group.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/03/AR2008040304052.html

THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, "the grid" will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds. The latest spin-off from Cern, the particle physics centre that created the web

Surf W/ Ric Flair Retires

REBECCA KNOX IRISH WRESTLER RETURNS, BAD ITALIAN WINE FLOODS ITALY, THE MOST EXCITING TRUE SPY THRILLER ABOUT STAMPS EVER, FINE ART PICS OF TATTOOS!

Ric Flair began wrestling in 1972 professionally. He retired after wrestling in the 2008 Wrestlemania.
Here is the biography and wrestling career of this legend.

Harley Warrick, 76, who was among a dozen sign painters who advertised the joys of chewing tobacco on the side of thousands of Appalachian and Midwestern barns, died November 24 in Wheeling, WVA.

Mr. Warrick and other barn painters traveled America's heartland for months at a time to cover barns with black, white and yellow signs reading "CHEW MAIL POUCH TOBACCO. TREAT YOURSELF TO THE BEST."  Warrick spent 55 years painting or retouching more than 20,000 barns. From Richard Crowe:

Rebecca Knox is one of the top 5 best women's wrestlers I have ever seen. I first saw her at a Shimmer Women's Wrestling event and she was terrific at acting and athleticism. She had the crowd in her hand and pulled off- well, I won't give it away, but the DVD of that event is on sale and available here: http://www.bigvisionentertainment.com/store/wrestling/shimmer3.php

Thanks to Jeff Borden In Chicago for the news she is returning.

She is from Ireland and she is also stunning in looks and moves. A head injury has kept her out of the ring, she is about to return.

I wanted you to see Rebecca in action and decided on this unusual Japanese match. Women wrestlers in Japan are the best women athletes in wrestling. You have to be really good to step into the ring in Japan. Jackie Chan used humor in his martial arts movie scenes and wrestling in Asia has matches that blend slapstick and humor as a result. Rebecca Knox handles the situation very well, and still gets to show her moves. We then to get to see her spanked.

Ireland's Rebecca Knox has been out of action since September of 2006 with an extremely unfortunate head injury that she suffered during a match in Germany.   Since then, K-NOX has kept an unbelievably low-profile living somewhere in Florida.  On Sunday, May 4, Rebecca Knox will return to ChickFight at a TV taping in Ipswich, Suffolk (UK) at The Caribbean Centre with a 5:30pm bell time!

BEST SITE OF THE DAY:

Richard Crowe found this true life spy thriller about the counterfeiting stamps and money campaign spies used against Hitler. This is quite a site with a story I had never read before- and it's true!

Text is "Gehangt am 8 Aug 1944: und ihr habt doch gesiegt," ("Hanged on 8 August 1944: and despite all you were victorious."). The British product parodied an earlier genuine German stamp depicting a Storm Trooper.
