THE TRUTH ABOUT SCIENCE FICTION FANS, GARGANTUA THE CIRCUS APE, ARTIE LANGE QUITS HOWARD STERN, HOLLYWOOD RE-MAKING 38 FILMS, THE LOST MUSLIM TRIBE OF AMERICA!
The following article sent in by Surfer The Drewster shows how good news can be reported as bad:
Science fiction fans are socially dysfunctional, bookish nerds with a tendency to dress up in Star Trek uniforms and exchange greetings in Klingon. They are invariably male and have little sense of personal hygiene. Or so the popular stereotype would have us believe. Like most cultural generalisations, this is about as accurate as the claims that all women are less intelligent than men, people remain unemployed because they are lazy, and all Liverpudlians are light-fingered. Nevertheless, stereotypes abide, sometimes through prejudice, but mostly through ignorance and a negative, simplistic perception of the genre itself. http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/04/sf_fandom.html

The true story of Gargantua, a circus animal, is very sad. From Surfer Richard Crowe:

The ethnic groups in Russia that were either decimated or cippled. From Surfer Richard Crowe:
Ben Ishmael were a collective of thousands of runaway slaves, Native Americans and "poor whites" who created a nomadic colony in the Kentucky Hills in 1790. They lived far from settled communities (for obvious reasons) and were forced out of inhabited lands at a regular pace. When Kentucky farmlands became slave-farms, they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. From Cincinnati they were driven out, tracing a settlement pattern through Indiana and finally to various small towns in Illinois (mostly southern parts). Cities like Mahomet, Mecca, Morocco and Cairo bear the names of some of these settlements. Surfer Richard Crowe may have topped himself on this one! They were wiped out to the last person by government sponsored sterilizations.
Here is the entire argument that led up to Artie Lange quitting The Howard Stern Show.

Some people collect postal stamps; Exit Mundi collects scenarios of what could go wrong with the world. Sure, our planet could get hit by an asteroid. But hey, that's nothing. Did you know we could all be munched away by hungry molecules? Or that our physicists could unintentionally wipe us all out while tinkering with particles? `Oops, sorry...'
Exit Mundi isn't in it for doom preaching, but strictly for fun. It's a fascinating thought: if that &*%#-comet didn't wipe out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, we wouldn't be here pondering about apocalypses and armageddons in the first place. The dinosaurs roamed our planet millions of years longer than we did. If it wasn't for the comet, they still would.
That's why this site is a tribute to floods, quantum explosions and awfully big chunks of space rock falling out of the sky. If there's a lesson to be learnt, it should be that within every end looms the dawn of a new beginning. Sounds good, doesn't it? http://www.exitmundi.nl/exitmundi.htm

HEAR JOEY RAMONE IN THE RESISTANCE, THE 1ST WOMAN PRESIDENT, BOB DYLAN WINS PULITZER, IAN FLEMING WAS COOL, THE MUPPETS SING NWA, BLACKBEARD'S SKULL ON DISPLAY!
At the end of their rope, The Ramones recorded one album of covers, Acid Eaters, in 1993. Here is a rare recording from the same period of Joey Ramone, solo, with only Marky from the Ramones sitting in on drums and other friends doing mostly covers for an abortion rights benefit. Cover versions, the Ramones?

Joey Ramone for Doc Marten's, the controversy about this ad is in the post below this one
This audience[?] recording is magnificent, real close to the stage so no echoes. Who knows, maybe this was recorded on stage? What stands out is how this does not sound like a Ramones concert but is Joey showing variety, enjoying himself plus delivering a punch for abortion rights. Example, he gets to sing Fascists Don't F**k, They Just Screw, written, he says for this show but never recorded by The Ramones. This is the only performance of this song.
Interesting that Joey called this one-night-stand band, The Resistance. HEAR THE CONCERT HERE:

Thanks to Bob Dylan, rock 'n' roll has finally broken through the Pulitzer wall. Dylan, the most acclaimed and influential songwriter of the past half century, who more than anyone brought rock from the streets to the lecture hall, received an honorary Pulitzer Prize on Monday, cited for his "profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power." "I am in disbelief," Dylan fan and fellow Pulitzer winner Junot Diaz said of Dylan's award. http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/books/04/07/pulitzers.arts.ap/index.html
Richard Crowe sends us Blackbeard's skull! During the early 1700s, the pirate Blackbeard, armed to the teeth with pistols, daggers and swords, attacked merchant vessels all up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Enraged Colonial authorities would have given anything to have his head.
Now, the Marblehead Museum and Historical Society has his head. Or at least they might. And anybody who visits their new exhibit "Pirates and Privateers in Marblehead" (which includes documents, paintings and artifacts) can have a look at what is said to be Blackbeard's skull, displayed in a Plexiglas case. http://salemnews.com/punews/local_story_155120210?page=1
Space-time travel ... original Fritz Leiber paperback jackets
The colourful alcohol-soaked career of Fritz Leiber began in theatre. His father, Fritz Leiber Sr, was a veteran actor (notable for having his portrait painted every time he took on a new role), and the sometime owner of the Shakespearean theatre company that gave Lieber Jr his first job. It was there, presumably, that the soon-to-be-influential sci-fi writer came up with some interesting ideas about the staging of his novels and, less happily, developed a passion for scattering his dialogue with words like "methinks" and "certes".
The 1958 Hugo award winner The Big Time references the big man from Stratford more than any sci-fi book I've read. http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/04/fritz_leiber_master_of_shakesp.html.printer.friendly
The plot cooked up by Ian Fleming in September 1940, more than a decade before he created James Bond, was so brilliantly preposterous that it can now be seen as the prototype 007 mission.
Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, was cool in real life, too!
Fleming, in his role as a naval intelligence officer during the Second World War, was the architect of Operation Ruthless, a daring scheme to seize a German codebook that may have inspired the plot to From Russia with Love. His plan, involving a staged plane crash and disguised commandos, is revealed in full at a new exhibition at the Imperial War Museum. http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article3694989.ece

Boston Beer Co., the Boston brewer of Samuel Adams craft beers, said it is recalling an undetermined amount of beer because of defective bottles that may contain glass particles.
The company said the defective bottles came from a glass company that provides Boston Beer with about a quarter of its glass bottles. The "small grains or bits of glass" were discovered during a quality control operation at the firm's Cincinnati brewery, Boston Beer said in a statement. The problem was confirmed Friday, and was traced to bottles coming from a single manufacturing plant.

John Fogerty After Creedence broke up, the musician spent years searching for his own sound. With love, he found it. My new album, "Revival,"comes by its title naturally—a return to making the kind of music I became known for early in my career. I get a real feeling of being back where I belong. But I didn't just decide to do that. I was in need of another kind of revival before that music could be created. Twenty-one years ago I was a castaway—a drifter, floating along with the stream. Not plotting a course or even aiming for a destination point. I was filled with anger and hurt and at the same time, weirdly subdued; depressed. Just a year earlier I'd released a No. 1 solo album to wildly enthusiastic acclaim. How did things get so bad? http://www.newsweek.com/id/72019

I wanted you to see Rebecca in action and decided on this unusual Japanese match. Women wrestlers in Japan are the best women athletes in wrestling. You have to be really good to step into the ring in Japan. Jackie Chan used humor in his martial arts movie scenes and wrestling in Asia has matches that blend slapstick and humor as a result. Rebecca Knox handles the situation very well, and still gets to show her moves. We then to get to see her spanked.

120 YEARS OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC, ABU GHRAIB: THE HOUSE OF HORROR, CHURCH OF ENGLAND DECLARES WAR ON ST GEORGE, STRANGE PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH, ADS FROM 1960'S MONSTER MOVIE MAGAZINES!
A new Gallup poll is very startling. 20% dislikes ALL major candidates!
Psychologists are skilled at inventing unusual tests of human thought and behavior, but some research is pretty weird. Over the past few months I've been examining some of the weirdest studies around. There's research into psychic dogs, invasions from Mars, the antidepressant properties of semen, pigeon-guided missiles and men's urination.
One of the most unusual photos ever- a policeman fires a gun directly into a willing subject!
Quite often the antagonist of the werewolf belief (and of werewolves themselves), is the Catholic church and its larger outgrowth of christianity in general. Through the church's inquisitions, tortures, and writings, the church has taught western culture of the "inherent" evil of werewolves. The werewolf was commonly believed to be the descendant of Cain or a monstrocity created by selling one's soul to the devil. Even today, the church in it's many forms views werewolves as the incarnate of evil, but there is one whom they've forgot.
The greatest werewolf sercret of them all.

The secret is much deeper in the church than mere converts and warriors. The secret is in the single name of Christopher.Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travelers and seafarers. He is fairly well known in western tradition. But the greatest secret of all is that Saint Cristopher is a Cynocephali, a dog-head, a werewolf!

120 years of electronic music:
THE FOLLOWING POST SHOULD NOT BE READ BY SENSITIVE READERS: Before Abu Ghraib became known by Americans, it was a house of horror:
The notoriety of Abu Ghraib was enough to chill the fervor of even the most revolutionary citizens. It was said that thousands of men and women were crammed into tiny cells and that abuse, torture, and executions were daily occurrences. The regime tested chemicals and biological weapons on the inmates, and some prisoners were given nothing but scraps of shredded plastic to eat. Chunks of flesh were torn from the bodies of some prisoners and then force-fed to others. Gruesome tortures involving power tools and hungry dogs were routine, and thousands of people who entered the doors of that fearsome place were never heard from again. It was known that mass graves existed around the country, and it was known in general terms where they were situated; but of course nobody dared to hunt out the final resting places of those poor men and women who had become victims of the enthusiastic guards at Abu Ghraib, for fear of becoming one of their number. http://www.guernicamag.com/features/540/rumors_and_retribution/
This is what The New Illustrated Rock Handbook wrote about Osibisa: "Introduced African rock music to British audiences and commanded large following from 1970 to 1976 when Sunshine Day gave them their first chart single." In those days, world music was a term yet to be coined but the polyrhythmic Afro rock of Osibisa is still as fresh today as it was invigorating then. Hear a radio performance of the band here:

From Richard Crowe: His dragon-slaying heroics have kept his legend alive through the centuries. But the Church of England is considering rejecting England's patron saint St George on the grounds that his image is too warlike and may offend Muslims.
Clergy have started a campaign to replace George with St Alban, a Christian martyr in Roman Britain. The scheme, to be considered by the Church's parliament, the General Synod, has met a cautious but sympathetic response from senior bishops.
But it clashes with the increasing popularity of the saint and his flag in England. The World Cup brought out millions of St George crosses as the symbol became increasingly mainstream.

Attempting to promulgate Dada ideas throughout Europe, Tristan Tzara launched the art and literature review Dada. Appearing in July 1917, the first issue of Dada, subtitled Miscellany of Art and Literature, featured contributions from members of avant-garde groups throughout Europe, including Giorgio de Chirico, Robert Delaunay, and Wassily Kandinsky. Marking the magazine's debut, Tzara wrote in the Zurich Chronicle, 'Mysterious creation! Magic Revolver! The Dada Movement is Launched.'

Issue 2 appeared in December of 1918. Issue number 3 violated all the rules and conventions in typography and layout and undermined established notions of order and logic. Printed in newspaper format in both French and German editions, it embodies Dada's celebration of nonsense and chaos with an explosive mixture of manifestos, poetry, and advertisements - all typeset in randomly ordered lettering. Included is Tzara's 'Dada Manifesto of 1918,' which was read at Meise Hall in Zurich on July 23, 1918, and is perhaps the most important of the Dadaist manifestos. http://www.ubuweb.com/historical/dada/index.html

The embryos survived for three days and are intended to provide a limitless supply of stem cells to develop therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and spinal cord injuries, overcoming a worldwide shortfall in human embryos.

The new exhibition includes several photo-realist paintings of carefully selected movie scenes in which a dramatically framed actress is central. The paintings are composed of two separate scenes from different movies, one black-and-white and one color, stacked horizontally so that one scene seems to bear weight upon the other and a new relationship or narrative is formed. The strong female protagonist of each frame conveys the scenes' emotional impact, and the inevitable nostalgia of McDermott & McGough's selected imagery lends a sense of cool introspection. The sensibility of the large scale, horizontally-composed paintings are echoed in a series of eight photo-realist paintings of 1960s era televisions, the distinctly boxy but individually unique exteriors framing single black-and-white scenes, the actresses' expressive faces filling the screen http://www.cheimread.com/exhibitions/2008-03-21_mcdermott-and-mcgough/

I love Bjork. I figure all the angels in SubGenius Heaven sound like her ( second choice, Carla Bruni). But even if you don't care for her, this video will blow you away.

The Kent State shooting that left 4 students dead- with footage never shown to U.S. audiences (see the second video)
Here is an accurate description of what led up to the shootings. The last paragraph explains why some feel the case should be re-opened.
War, Inc. (Trailer and Info) War, Inc. is a dark political satire film starring John Cusack and Hilary Duff and directed by Joshua Seftel. Cusack also wrote and produced the film. A working title of the film was "Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens." The story is partly inspired by Naomi Klein's article "Baghdad Year Zero." http://thelastmovement.blogspot.com/2008/03/war-inc-trailer-and-info.html

If all of John Steinbeck is in print 40 years after his death and is still force-fed to school kids, why is he so decisively off the literary map?
Canada is loved and trusted world wide, even though it was made up of people fleeing our Revolutionary War, Civil War and VietNam. Hmmmmmm.
The story Obama tells of JFK helping his family leave Kenya isn't, ummmm, accurate.

In Communist propaganda, women were fully equal and integrated into the military. In reality however....
Western pornography was banned under communism, but the armed forces of the former East Germany made their own sex films featuring bare-breasted female soldiers that were enjoyed by senior officers and outwardly prudish hard-line politicians. Evidence of the former communist state's secret porn industry surfaced yesterday in a documentary made by eastern Germany's MDR television channel. It showed original film clips of nude subalterns kissing, and female army privates in helmets posing semi-naked on parade. The programme, Pornography made in the German Democratic Republic, revealed that the East German army, which at the time was one of the most feared in the Warsaw Pact, ran a 160-man film unit devoted to making porn. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/europe/stasis-official-pornography-department-finally-exposed-801774.html
